Press Release: The latest creation to come out of SPRINGSHOW producer, Bar Hodgson’s workshop, based on an unassuming British 1953 Vincent Black Shadow, is named ‘Sandbagger’ and is on display in the ‘Bikes of the Century’ red-carpet exhibit at SPRINGSHOW 2016, April 9 & 10 at the International Centre in Toronto.

What started out as a set of Vincent crankcases, quickly evolved into a ‘Sleeper’ as high-performance parts were sourced, added, and sometimes modified. What Bar was going for was a bike that looked like an ordinary street model but would take people by surprise, both in performance and upon closer inspection, hence the name ‘Sandbagger’.

Hodgson states, “I chose the latest technology from around the world. Sandbagger’s Engine is bored and stroked to 1300cc’s, using 1953 Vincent Black Shadow crankcases, a Terry Prince Stroker crank, Terry Prince Big Bore Kit, forged pistons, 105 degree cams, and Terry Prince twin plug ‘bathtub’ heads, all from Australia. An English BTH capacitor discharge magneto and twin Italian Dellorto 41mm ‘pumper’ carburetors join up with a 12 volt Alton alternator and ‘straight through’ glass pack stock looking exhaust system. Suspension is upgraded with Italian Borrani alloy rims, English alloy racing brake plates, German racing linings and a set of original U.S.A. Works prototype ‘coilover damper’ shocks on the original cantilever rear suspension. There is also an English John Surtees 5-speed transmission and a French electric start system waiting on the workbench to install this summer.”

The Vincent Black Shadow ‘Sandbagger’ is the latest creation to emerge from this innovative workshop, in the ‘Built by Bar’ series. Hodgson was the first custom bike builder in Toronto, working out of his one-man shop, back in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Inspired by the wild creations coming out of California he put his own twist on the custom scene and built some of the most unique Harley-Davidson custom motorcycles that people still talk about today. Now, almost 60 years later he continues his creative passion by putting his ‘Built by Bar’ stamp on the mighty Vincent, one of history’s finest motorcycles.
