Two-time reigning Daytona 200 champion Danny Eslick was arrested earlier this week, mere days before attempting to be the first to win the historic race in three years in a row.

According to Volusia County Corrections, Eslick was jailed on a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer. The alleged offense occurred on Monday, March 7 and Eslick was booked the following morning.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Eslick was arrested near the intersection of Main Street and Ocean Avenue and was released after posting $1,500 bail.

Eslick won the 2014 and 2015 Daytona 200 races and will seek his third consecutive victory this weekend with the TOBC Racing Yamaha team.
