If you’re unfamiliar with AJP motorcycles you’re not alone, so are most folks. The company set up shop in September of 2014, in Vermont, under the leadership of Scott Armstrong, “a 10 year veteran in the motorcycle industry whose background includes – motorcycle racing champion, dealer principal, and former importer/distributor of European motorcycle apparel & accessories.” According to the About AJP page on the company’s website, AJP was founded circa 1987 in Portugal by Antonio J. Pinto (AJP) – a seven-time Portuguese National Enduro Champion. For a complete history of AJP Motorcycles check out motoajp.com-history. There’s also a write-up on AJP and Scott Armstrong from the now defunct Dealernews website: AJP motorcycles enters U.S. market with niche enduro range.

AJP currently offers three models, PR3, PR4 and PR5R, with an adventure model, the PR7, supposedly coming soon. Below are the listed changes to the 2016 versions from an AJP press release.

  • Lower Seat Height – Our Factory AJP rear suspension lowering link will now be included in the crate with each bike. This link will give our customer the option of lowering the seat height by 1 full inch from the standard 34.4 inches, down to a very low 33.4 inches. This bike will continue to be built though with the standard link installed on the bike – the lowering link, will be strictly an option provided at no extra charge! (When installing the
  • Lowering link – a simple modification to the kickstand stop will allow the lowered bike to use the stock PR3 kickstand.)
  • New Fuel Tank & Cap – A new fuel tank design with an improved threaded flange plus a larger and now plastic gas cap are being used. This design makes it less likely for dirt or debris to fall into the tank when removing the cap since the cap is almost the same size as the opening in the seat, plus it is threaded into a flange on the tank that is smaller than previously and now raised above the main tank area.
  • Reikon Clutch – A very high-quality Billet Aluminum Reikon clutch perch assembly will be fitted to every PR3 from the factory. The perch and lever are both anodized, the lever has a larger pivot with bearing, and the perch is able to rotate on the bars on a nylon sleeve in the event of a crash. It also has a quick adjust feature to adjust cable slack while riding.
  • New Decals – A new, more modern look for our graphics this year – check out the picture!
  • Kickstand Auto-retract deleted – We eliminated this feature by substituting a normal pivot bolt in place of the older one that had a pin in the head of it. This change will make the kickstand stay in the down position even with no weight on it, plus it will retract normally when pushed rearward.

2016 PR4 – MSRP $4995

  • Lower Seat Height – Our Factory AJP rear suspension lowering link will now be included in the crate with each bike. This link will give our customer the option of lowering the seat height by 1 full inch from the standard 36.4 inches, down to an even more reachable 35.4 inches. This bike will continue to be built with the standard link installed on the bike – the lowering link, will be strictly an option provided at no extra charge!
  • Shorter Kickstand – To better accommodate the installation of the optional lowering link, we are now fitting this bike with a slightly shorter kickstand. The bike sits much better on the stand with this change – regardless of which suspension link is installed, with no risk of tip-over in either case.
Michelin S12 XC Rear Tire – By popular demand, we have switched out the Michelin FIM rear enduro tire previously used for the much better performing and more popular Michelin S12 XC on the rear of this bike. The front tire will continue to be the Michelin FIM enduro tire as used before.
  • New Fuel Tank & Cap – A new fuel tank design with an improved threaded flange plus a larger and now plastic gas cap are being used. This design makes it less likely for dirt or debris to fall into the tank when removing the cap since the cap is almost the same size as the opening in the seat, plus it is threaded into a flange on the tank that is smaller and raised above the main tank area.
  • Rear Sprocket – A new (smaller) 45T Aluminum rear sprocket will come fitted to this bike – for a much better spread of power and gear choice in a wider range of conditions.
  • Reikon Clutch – A very high-quality Billet Aluminum Reikon clutch perch assembly will be fitted to every PR4 from the factory. The perch and lever are both anodized, the lever has a larger pivot with bearing, and the perch is able to rotate on the bars on a nylon sleeve in the event of a crash. It also has a quick adjust feature to adjust cable slack while riding.
