Every rider has heard of the Love Ride, but do they know that it is the largest and longest running one-day motorcycle charity event in the world? This year, it’s 32nd running, will be the final Love Ride, the last time this organization will raise funds for those less fortunate than us. This year special attention will be paid to the Wounded Warrior Project.

From its first event in 1981, held behind Glendale Harley-Davidson and raising only $1,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Love Ride has exploded to raise over $24 million to various charities. Oh, and they have a great concert, too. Celebrities from Malcom Forbes to Peter Fonda to Jay Leno have lent their star power to help the events provide both fundraising and a good time for the attendees.

The ride portion begins at 9AM from Glendale Harley-Davidson where thousands of motorcycles will ride from Glendale to Castaic Lake for a blowout concert, motorcycle trade show, motorcycle stunts, custom motorcycle show, a variety of gourmet food trucks, and prizes. The event’s featured acts will be the Foo Fighters and Social Distortion.

Tickets cost $45 per person until midnight Friday October 16th at www.loveride.org. Tickets are available in Glendale and Castaic Lake the day of the event for $60.

Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career. While on his way to a planned life in academia, he applied for a job at a motorcycle magazine, thinking he’d get the opportunity to write some freelance articles. Instead, he was offered a full-time job in which he discovered he could actually get paid to ride other people’s motorcycles – and he’s never looked back. Over the 25 years he’s been in the motorcycle industry, Evans has written two books, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects and How to Modify Your Metric Cruiser, and has ridden just about every production motorcycle manufactured. Evans has a deep love of motorcycles and believes they are a force for good in the world.
