2015 Harley-Davidson Street Faces Fuel Pump Recall

Government bodies in Australia and Canada have announced recalls for the 2015 Harley-Davidson Street 500 and 750 because of a problem with their fuel pump modules. As of this writing, no recall has been announced for the U.S. by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but members of the HD Street Forum report that American dealers have been alerted about the problem.

According to details published by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission and Transport Canada, affected models have a poor seal on their fuel pump inlets that can allow an interruption in fuel supply under acceleration at fuel levels below 0.8 gallons. Riders may notice a slight hesitation when opening the throttle followed by an abrupt leap in acceleration as the fuel supply is restored.

A letter sent to U.S. dealers on HD Street Forum explains the issue affects models built from Jan. 20, 2014 to June 24, 2015 at Harley-Davidson’s Kansas City plant and from Feb. 24, 2014 to July 15, 2015 at its plant in Bawal, India. The letter also explains that dealers will receive replacement fuel pump module kits from a part supplier in waves starting from the week of Sept. 14.

This is the second fuel supply-related recall affecting the Street models. Last year, Harley-Davidson announced a recall to address a problem with the fuel caps not sealing properly.

We will provide an update with more information when NHTSA announces U.S. recall details.
