Bruce Anstey kicked off the 2015 Isle of Man TT by winning the Superbike TT race. Anstey averaged a speed of 128.749 mph in the six-lap race. The win was Anstey’s 10th TT victory but the Honda rider’s first in the Superbike TT class.

Kawasaki Paul Bird Motorsport’s Ian Hutchinson was the early race leader, setting down an average speed of 130.959 mph on the opening lap. Anstey was just over a second slower around the 37.73-mile Mountain Course followed by Kawasaki Quattro Plant‘s James Hillier.

Hutchinson increased his lead on Lap 2 with another 130.9 time before pulling in for a pit stop. Anstey remained in second place while Michael Dunlop, who made a late decision last week to change from riding the Yamaha YZF-R1 to the BMW S1000RR, passed Hillier to move into third position.

The leaders remain unchanged after the third lap, with Hutchinson holding a 4.796-second overall lead over Anstey.

Things started to turn on Lap 4 with both Anstey and Dunlop averaging faster than 131.3 mph. Hutchinson still held the overall lead, but the near five-second advantage over Anstey was cut to just 0.289 seconds as they made their second pit stops.

Anstey maintained his momentum after the pit stop, taking over the lead on Lap 5. Hutchinson was five seconds back in second with Dunlop still sitting in third heading into the final lap.

Anstey sealed the victory with a race-best final lap, averaging a speed of 131.797 mph. Hutchinson crossed the finish line just slight more than 10 seconds later to take second place.

Dunlop appeared headed for the final podium spot but crashed getting caught with a slower rider at the Nook, about a mile from the finish line. The crash brought out a red flag, cutting the race short with only six riders completing the full six laps. Dunlop was bruised in the crash but not seriously injured while Scott Wilson, reportedly suffered a broken collarbone in the crash.
