The late Dane Westby will be celebrated by his father, and team principle of the Yamalube/Westby Racing team, Tryg Westby, as he will ride a lap of honor at The Circuit of the Americas on Friday, April 10 at 6:45pm. He will be joined on his parade lap by 1993 500cc Grand Prix World Champion Kevin Schwantz.

“I’ll be wearing my old leathers from my racing days back in the 1980s,” Tryg said. “And I’m looking forward to taking the lap aboard my son’s #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 Superstock 1000 racebike. Dane ran the fastest lap (out of all Superstock 1000 riders who participated) at the MotoAmerica Test at COTA a couple of weeks ago, and I’m filled with pride and emotion about riding the bike at COTA in his memory.”

Third Annual Bikers & Beauties Austin MotoGP Party And Silent Auction Will Honor Dane Westby And Benefit National Down Syndrome Society

On Saturday, April 11, at 7 PM, the Third Annual Bikers & Beauties Austin MotoGP Party will be held at Concrete Cowboy, 719 West 6th Street in Austin, to honor Dane Westby. A silent auction will also take place during the party, and fans in attendance will have an opportunity to bid on signed racing memorabilia donated by many MotoGP, World Superbike, and U.S. motorcycle road racing stars, including Marc Marquez, Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, Scott Russell, Roger Hayden, Danny Eslick, and many more. In addition, Andrew Wheeler from AutoMotoPhoto has donated signed photos of many of the stars of MotoGP, and the photos will also be up for bids in the silent auction.

The party and auction are being organized by former racer John Haner, with support from MotoMummy.com, and proceeds from the party and auction will go to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), an organization chosen by the Westby family as beneficiary of the events. “Dane was an enthusiastic supporter of the NDSS,” John Haner said. “We’re happy to accommodate the Westby family’s request to hold this party and silent auction for the benefit of an organization that was so important to Dane.”

In addition, donations to the Roadracing World Action Fund will be accepted at the door, and those who donate will be eligible for door prizes. The Roadracing World Action Fund promotes motorcycle racing safety, and in particular, encourages and facilitates the use of soft air barriers at motorcycle racing events.

Troy's been riding motorcycles and writing about them since 2006, getting his start at Rider Magazine. From there, he moved to Sport Rider Magazine before finally landing at Motorcycle.com in 2011. A lifelong gearhead who didn't fully immerse himself in motorcycles until his teenage years, Troy's interests have always been in technology, performance, and going fast. Naturally, racing was the perfect avenue to combine all three. Troy has been racing nearly as long as he's been riding and has competed at the AMA national level. He's also won multiple club races throughout the country, culminating in a Utah Sport Bike Association championship in 2011. He has been invited as a guest instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School, and when he's not out riding, he's either wrenching on bikes or watching MotoGP.
