Aprilia is recalling the 2014-2015 Shiver 750 and 2015 Caponord 1200 because of a possible safety defect with the gearbox output shaft. The U.S. recall affects 337 motorcycles in total.
According to documents released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the output gear shaft face may not have been machined to the proper specifications by the supplier, Chonging Qiutian Gear Co. As a result, the screw fastening the sprocket may loosen, potentially causing the rear wheel to lock up. A similar recall announcement by the U.K.’s Vehicle & Safety Services Agency (VOSA) says an abnormal noise may be an indication of the problem.
Aprilia dealers will inspect recalled vehicles and install a revised sprocket fastener kit and, if required, fit a new secondary shaft.
