If you’re a female rider, mark you calendar for the Women’s Freedom Ride July 21st. This will mark the first ever all-women group ride to go from coast to coast. The cause? First, to promote and bring awareness to women riders. Second, to raise money for severely wounded veterans.

These veterans will receive their support through the non-profit organization, Independence Fund. “We chose this group rather than any of the others because this is one of the few organizations of its kind that gives 100% of every dollar raised directly to those veterans in need,” explains Gail Ankney, President and Founder of the Women’s Freedom Ride.

Ankney says the 2013 Women’s Freedom Ride will mark the first all-women coast-to-coast ride, and that a different route is already being planned out for next year. There’s no fee to participate, and riders are free to join the ride at any point along the course. Currently, there are more than 30 women already committed to participate.

Troy's been riding motorcycles and writing about them since 2006, getting his start at Rider Magazine. From there, he moved to Sport Rider Magazine before finally landing at Motorcycle.com in 2011. A lifelong gearhead who didn't fully immerse himself in motorcycles until his teenage years, Troy's interests have always been in technology, performance, and going fast. Naturally, racing was the perfect avenue to combine all three. Troy has been racing nearly as long as he's been riding and has competed at the AMA national level. He's also won multiple club races throughout the country, culminating in a Utah Sport Bike Association championship in 2011. He has been invited as a guest instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School, and when he's not out riding, he's either wrenching on bikes or watching MotoGP.
