US Highland announced it is opening a new engineering and production facility as company prepares for a new $30 million powertrain sales contract with an OEM.

The new facility will be located in Tulsa, Okla., the company’s home and where it’s existing factory is located. US Highland says it has already recently expanded its workforce and is beginning another round of hiring.

The announcement for the new facility comes shortly after US Highland announced it is in the final stages in designing an engine for an OEM for a contract worth an estimated $30 million.

“Our new facility allows simultaneous production of powertrains and vehicles,” says John R. Fitzpatrick, III, president and chief executive officer of US Highland. “This is an important element for launching our 2012 production plan.”

Things appear to be moving rather quickly for US Highland since the new management team took over the reigns. The company’s strategy of being a powertrain supplier is beginning to take hold with the new contract, and US Highland will continue to produce its own vehicles with orders to begin processing in 2012.

US Highland is adopting a build-to-order approach for their vehicle sales, customizing motorcycles for the customer’s size an offering a choice of different displacements for its Single and V-Twin engines.
