Yamaha and Toyota are collaborating on new communication-linked vehicle technology. The two Japanese manufacturers will showcase their work in a joint exhibition at the Tokyo Motor Show Nov. 30 – Dec. 11.

The display will feature the Yamaha’s PAS WITH electric bicycle and the EC-Miu electric scooter concept pictured above.

The joint project has three main objectives: to build a comprehensive information infrastructure, establish new transportation systems including vehicle sharing systems and cut development costs for IT services.

The information infrastructure includes a charging system for electric vehicles for both Yamaha and Toyota vehicles, and will be integrated with Toyota’s Smart Center system which monitors electricity consumption.

The collaboration will also develop navigation and telematics services for Yamaha vehicles using smartphones and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The system will provide information such as charging station locations and availability, and also let consumers know when their electric vehicle is fully charged.
