"Ghostrider" enters The DARPA Grand Challenge

Sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), The DARPA Grand Challenge awards cash prizes funded by Congress to anyone who can create and develop the technology to successfully build a driverless vehicle.

In 2005, Blue Team was lead by Anthony Levandowski, a student at University of California in Berkeley. The team had six students working 12 to 14 hours a day trying to develop software to teach the robot to fight gravity and balance the motorcycle on its own working with a budget of $193,000. Unfortunately, the bike did not qualify but a valiant effort, it may have even been the inspiration for the “Moto-Terminator”.

Hit the jump to watch the “Ghostrider” in action.
